Magnetic Field Readings
To find out if a house is located too close to BC Hydro power lines, one can order Magnetic Field Measurement tests. The purpose of these tests is to determine if there are any magnetic fields present that could interfere with the well-being of the occupants of the home.
The test method used involves spot magnetic flux readings in Milligauss. One takes readings right under the power lines, to the outside of the residence and inside the residence. To get a true reading inside the residence, all power consumers must be entire off. The best method would be to shut down all power supply into and inside the home.
These readings can be compared with those that occur inside the home on a daily basis. This is done to put the information acquired into the proper perspective.
For example, in readings found at 2448 Grant Rd, it was found that the magnetic field under the lines was less than that found near a TV set or cell phone. It was also found that the magnetic field from the lines as it is experienced inside the home, is far less than that of any electricity consuming device inside the house, including an electric dryer or microwave oven. It’s notable that even halogen light bulbs emit more magnetic field than the power lines in the distance.
Essentially, those that are at all concerned about the magnetic field from power lines, are well advised to entirely avoid any electricity inside their home. In this world, to stay away from magnetic fields, one basically has to live off-the-grid and far away from any other emitters. Even then, the magnetic field emitted up from Mother Earth isn’t zero either. Read more about this topic here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Magnetic_field
