The 50-year-old Gibsons police station is soon to be closed and a new station built on a site near Sunnyside Mall, this information following a joint announcement between the Town of Gibsons and RCMP on Wednesday.

Recycling on Sunshine Coast

July 31st, 2010

There are many reasons to recycle and most people on the Sunshine Coast appear to be well aware of its advantages.  With recycling centres in several strategic locations, it’s no trouble at all for most to do the responsible thing and drop off their cardboard, paper, cans, bottles and plastics at a depot. With recycling questions, one is encouraged to ring the recycling Hotline: ...

Sunshine Coast Ferry Service Back to Normal

July 30th, 2010
After its unfortunately timed major breakdown, the Queen of Surrey has returned to regular service on the Sunshine Coast as it started its service on the Horseshoe Bay – Langdale route yesterday.

The long-awaited 5:50 pm sailing from Horseshoe Bay to Langdale now runs Sunday – Friday; this is great news for commuters.

Both the Queen of Surrey and the Queen of Coquitlam will ...

Property Appraisals: Real or Fake

July 30th, 2010
These days, an automated valuation system (AVS) is often used as a quick way to value a property without doing a full human appraisal.  AVSs are basically massive computer databases of public records. They use comparable sale data to value billions of dollars of real estate every year, and they do it in seconds or less.

Given their efficiency, AVSs have been catching on wit ...

Birds on the Sunshine Coast

July 29th, 2010
Life is good on the Sunshine Coast … for us but also for the birds. Throughout the year, a large variety of birds can be spotted on The Coast. The area being a lush, mountainous and forested region with many lakes and creeks, attracts a great variety of wildlife to the region including a wide assortment of lake birds, sea birds, predatory birds and song birds.

Sunshine Coast Airlines

July 29th, 2010
The natural “back harbour” at Sechelt (Purpoise Bay) makes for an outstanding location for float planes. This, because the inlet is so nicely sheltered. As a bonus, the float plane air terminal is located just outside “Downtown Sechelt”, making for a quick connection to many locations.

Presently, both Tofino Air http://www.tofinoair.ca/ and West Coast Air http://www.westcoas ...

Retirement on the Sunshine

July 28th, 2010
On the Sunshine Coast, there are now more “retired” residents than a decade or so ago. The Sunshine Coast has become an ideal destination for those that no longer need to work for income.

Not only is the scenery pleasant, the climate is very agreeable, there’s also a hospital as well as an excellent base of medical service providers. There are also shopping facilities of al ...

Best Mortgage Rates Today

July 28th, 2010
Over the past few days, various banks, credit unions and mortgage brokers have adjusted their mortgage rates. Interestingly enough, the “fixed-term” rates have come down a bit due to various market pressures while the “variable rates” have come up due to the Bank of Canada rate hike last week. This means that the spread between variable and fixed is now smaller.

Sunshine Coast as a Tourist Destination

July 27th, 2010
Home delivery of the Vancouver Sun never fails on The Sunshine Coast. This weekend was particularly good as the back page of the travel section was filled with what we already know … The Coast as a destination.

Read all about it in the Vancouver Sun: http://www.vancouversun.com/travel/Soak+Sunshine+with+Ferries/3318130/story.html

The article gives a few examples of package ...

Sunshine Coast Bear Sightings

July 27th, 2010

Bear sightings on the Sunshine Coast are commonplace. For those that don’t like bears on their property, there is a very cost-effective and humane way to deal with the issue. I recommend a motion activated animal repellent system that responds by instantly spraying the intruding animal with water under full garden hose pressure.

The system works like a motion activated secu ...
